Good and Bad Yoga Exercises For Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

by Tom Nicholson

Yoga has many great carpal tunnel exercises which can help to relieve the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. Yoga includes both mental and physical exercises which can develop both body and mind, which can combine to be very effective in healing the issue. However, yoga must be done properly in order to help rather than harm the body and aggravate the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. If left untreated, carpal tunnel syndrome can be very damaging.

Use good yoga practices to perform carpal tunnel exercises which will improve your symptoms instead of aggravating them.

Bad Yoga Practices

Simply put, these practices will usually result in doing more harm than good. Keep them in mind if you do not want to worsen your condition.

Fresh symptoms - one of the biggest mistakes people make is to become overzealous with their yoga programs once they hear it helps with carpal tunnel syndrome. Yoga exercises are meant to strengthen the body, but can prove to be destructive if practiced while the body is still healing.

Excessive weight on joints - the joints (specifically the wrists) are the source of the problem when a person is suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. While a little stretching is good for the wrists, putting too much load on them will stress the damaged nerves even further, causing more pain and damage than healing.

Unsupervised yoga - yoga may sound simple enough when written on paper, especially when you read about how effective do-it-yourself yoga is at healing, but the specific muscle stretches and pulls can damage the muscles if done improperly. You may even make more permanent mistakes if you lack the guidance of a professional.

Good Yoga Practices Bad yoga practices aside, good yoga practices will help a person suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome alleviate their symptoms while avoiding any problems in the long run.

Good yoga practices are those which can help your body to heal from carpal tunnel syndrome and avoid causing any more injury.

Stretching as opposed to carrying - placing the weight on the wrists will damage them, making the problem worse. But stretching them around will help ease the stress on the wrists and promote faster recovery. As previously mentioned, the increased blood flow will speed up recovery without subjecting your wrists to strenuous and potentially destructive weight.

Supervised yoga - yoga is most effective when a professional yoga instructor is there to supervise a person’s session, as he or she knows what has to be done to maximize effect. Individuals suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome especially need professional supervision in order to avoid making mistakes during their initial stages of practicing yoga.

As long as you keep in mind the right and wrong ways to do yoga, you can improve your carpal tunnel syndrome, not make it worse by using the best carpal tunnel exercises.

How To Astral Project Your Ethereal Body

Each and every human being is born with the ability to astral project. The only difference between those who can astral project at will and those who cannot is practice. Astral projection is a technique which has a very long history, just as do yoga and meditation. Astral projection goes by a lot of different names; and there are a lot of different ways you can astral project.

Lucid dreaming, for example is a form of astral projection. You already know what lucid dreaming is – this is when you are conscious within a dream and able to direct the course of the dream. This takes practice to do reliably, but it is as simple as saying to yourself ‘I am dreaming’ while you are in the middle of a dream.

If you keep doing this, you will become conditioned to being aware when you are dreaming. It may be hard for a beginner to astral project with this random practice.

You need to know that astral projection is real. You should also know that you have astral projected already, you simply were not aware that is what had happened. Have you ever woken up from a dream either in the middle of the night or in the morning and remembered a ‘dream’ that you had the night before really well. As if you had lived it. That was an astral projection.

Being able to astral project begins with self-affirmation. You need to believe that you have this ability. You’ll have to eliminate all of the doubt that’s been preventing you from astral projecting.

Learn some good meditation and relaxation techniques; these will make it easier for you to astral project. Meditation will get your mind and body ready for the experience of astral projection. Start practicing relaxation and meditation routines you like to get prepared.

One good way to start your meditation (and astral projecting) is to sit in a comfortable chair in a quiet room where you will not be interrupted or distracted. You need to clear all thoughts from your mind and focus on your breathing. Breathe slowly and deeply. Feel your tension and worry leaving your body with each exhalation. Before long, you’ll be nearing the deeply relaxed state necessary to astral project.

You now need to go deeper into a state of altered consciousness. Just think about your breathing as you are now without worry or stress. Your mind is clear, you are taking deep breathes. Focus on breathing in through the nose and letting the airflow out through your mouth. You are breathing slower and deeper and getting more relaxed, now focus on relaxing your body.

Focus on each part of the body, starting at the farthest points, your toes. You can do one of two things here. You can either tense and relax each part of your body as you move up the body or you can say as you exhale, ‘My toes are relaxing, I am relaxing.’

You are going to feel heaviness as each area of your body becomes relaxed. The tension will leave your muscles; your energy will slip away as each part of your body relaxes. You will be able to feel it when this happens. When this consumes your entire body, you are ready to move on to astral projection.

Your body and your mind will be completely relaxed and it would be very easy to fall asleep, but don’t! To stay alert, you can repeat a phrase to yourself. It doesn’t matter what this phrase is – it could be as simple as ‘walk the dog, walk the dog’.

The mind tends to get bored when it is not doing anything, which can mean that it will drift and find something else to focus on. You don’t want that to happen. If the mind wanders then you need to quit the session. To help bring the mind back repeat your phrase.

There are a few different ways you can reach the kind of altered state required for astral projection. You can keep repeating your phrase until you reach it, or use the ‘body of light’ method, where you visualize yourself transforming into a body made of light.

There are three signs which will let you know that you are successfully astral projecting. One is that you’ll experience a sensation of motion, followed by seeing light and color even though your eyes will be closed. Finally, you’ll hear voices urging you either to continue or to stop what you are doing – this is a surefire sign that you have managed to astral project.

Tips For Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Prevention And Treatment

by Tom Nicholson

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a chronic and often debilitating condition which is usually due to the stress of repetitive motion, most commonly in the course of one’s work, though there are hobbies which also pose a risk for the development of carpal tunnel. Poor posture and failing to take adequate breaks are common risk factors; and if you’ve been ignoring those pains in your wrists and hands you are likely on the verge of developing the condition yourself.

Gritting your teeth and continuing to work even when you’re in pain is looked on as an admirable trait in our society - but when your health is at stake, it’s a serious mistake to think this way.

But what are the inner workings of carpal tunnel syndrome? Carpel tunnel occurs primarily in the hands and wrists when the median nerve is compressed or damaged. This is due to a tightening of the transverse carpal ligament that bundles all of the other ligaments in your wrist tightly. Your median nerve runs along with those inside the wrist. This is what gives you the strength and leverage your hands need to do their jobs.

Repetitive motion, improper posture and straining the wrists can compress the median nerve. However, there are some things you can do to prevent carpal tunnel as well as to relive the pain and numbness the condition can cause.

Following sound ergonomics can go a long way towards preventing carpal tunnel syndrome. If your workplace has someone who is either responsible for or an expert in ergonomics, ask for their advice to see what you could be doing to protect yourself from carpal tunnel. You can also take some steps on your own; take short breaks every hour or so and stretch your hands to keep your ligaments loose and prevent compression of the median nerve.

Surgery is an option if you have a severe case of carpal tunnel syndrome, but keep in mind that like any other surgery, there are some risks involved. While not likely, there is the possibility of losing some of your hand’s strength permanently as an unintended consequence of this procedure. Carpal tunnel surgery can also be very expensive if your insurer doesn’t cover this treatment.

Even after surgery you’ll need to do some physical therapy; using the same stretches and other exercises which you could start doing now to provide relief (and if begun early enough, can even prevent carpal tunnel syndrome). You should look at all of the other options available to you before you consider surgery - in a small number of cases it may be necessary to resort to this treatment, but surgery should always be the last resort, not the first choice.
